Our Plan
As stewards of the land, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation is entrusted to protect wildlife and other resources for present and future generations. The Wildlife Department manages more than 70 hunting areas totaling over 1.6 million acres of land in the state for public use. These areas provide constituents the opportunity to hunt, fish or just enjoy nature. Only 4.9 percent of Oklahoma’s 44.77 million acres is publicly owned. Of that, the Wildlife Department owns about 340,000 acres, and it manages or leases an additional 1.05 million acres of publicly owned lands in the state.
